While some traditional Taekwondo clubs can focus squarely on kicking and poomsae (patterns), our program combines these elements with modern boxing, self-defense and strength training, giving you a well rounded Martial Arts experience and a good time to boot!
Taekwondo is the best and most advanced kicking martial art in the world. From basic techniques like front kick, push kick and instep kick through to advanced techniques like spinning kick and jump reverse turning kick.
Our coaches have trained with the best Taekwondo practitioners in the world: from national coaches to world champions, and soon we will have you doing things you never thought possible
Our coaches have also trained with experienced coaches and competitive boxers and you will develop a solid boxing game. In fact, we believe the boxing component of our program is the best of any Taekwondo school.
Over time you will progress from basic arm and wrist locks, to headlock escapes and weapon defense. You will gain an understanding of grappling positions such as mount, guard and arm bar. Our coaches are continuosly working with grappling coaches, MMA competitors, even UFC fighters to develop and sharpen our self defence program.
Our philosophy is that strong minds and strong bodies go hand in hand. We are always working killer cardio, strength building and flexibility building workouts into our classes. Martial arts is widely recognised as the activity that burns more calories then any other. It’s unlike any workout in the world.
When you’re ready-sparring is an important part of the program for our students. We spar light contact with complete protective kit, using kicking and boxing techniques to the head and body. Once a year, we hold an in-house sparring competition for whoever wants to participate.
The traditional side of Taekwondo, Poomsae incorporates traditional Taekwondo blocks and strikes in a series of movements which get more advanced the higher up in the ranks you get. We teach World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Poomsae and there is a new one to learn every time you move up a rank. Poomsae are very important part of Taekwondo gradings for belt advancements.
You are only as good as the people that are training with you. At Lane Cove Taekwondo we have built a community of all different belt levels. Our members will help you advance, stay motivated and push you harder to be more than before.
